We are proud to announce the relocation/expansion of Sample Music & Sound Design to 1207 N Himes Ave. Just a couple of blocks from several major arteries and near Raymond James Stadium and the airport, we are minutes from downtown Tampa and the bridges.

The facility was designed and built by Ernie Sample and Mark Kosun. The non-parallel LEDE design effectively isolates the 350 sf control room from all outside noise, and the 200 sf record room is a great improvement over the vocal booth in our old space. In addition, we also have a fully-equipped kitchen and lounge for those long, late night sessions. Come by and check it out!

Anne Archer stopped in to do some ADR work for her new film End Game.  The film, which also stars James Woods and Angie Harmon, is set for a December release.  Ms. Archer was visiting the area when Nu Image films scheduled the session to replace some dialog in the production.  She characterized it as the "quickest and easiest" looping session she has ever done.

SMI recently installed a new Sony DMX-R100 digital mixing console in the control room. The R-100 is the little brother of the fabled Sony Oxford, a large frame desk used in several of the premiere music studios of the world. Comprising 72 inputs and 48 channels, the Sony console lends itself to the diversity that is Sample Music & Sound Design. We may record and mix original music on Monday, post a 30 minute TV show on Tuesday, and record narration on Wednesday. So the automation is a great time saver in daily use. And it enables us to do surround mixes in hi-res. Come by and watch our flying faders!

Johnny Blue, a short film written and directed by Gene Howes recently premiered to a SRO crowd at the Ybor City Film Festival in Tampa. The film, shot in St. Petersburg and Ybor City, was posted and scored by Ernie Sample and featured the talents of many musicians in Florida and Tennessee. Notable contributors were Neal Dover, singer-songwriter with credits on numerous albums from Memphis, Atlanta, and Nashville, and Chris Wilkinson, Nashville composer/arranger and Golden Globe nominee for her work on All the Pretty Horses.

The St Pete Times said, Probably ‘Johnny Blue’s’ best element is the music, a bluesy soundtrack richly delivered.
